Steve Sonderman

President and Founder, No Regrets Men's Ministries

Highly regarded as one of the pioneers of the men's ministry movement in America, Steve started one of the first men's ministries in the country for the growing church population at Elmbrook Church in Brookfield, Wisconsin. His real passion is to see every local church have its own ministry to men. In 1994, he began the annual No Regrets Men’s Conference which today draws thousands of men to the event held at Elmbrook Church and across the country via webcast. Steve also serves as Senior Associate Pastor of Leadership Development at Elmbrook Church and regularly consults and leads seminars in this country and around the world with churches from a wide range of denominations helping to develop and establish local men's ministries and address leadership issues.

Steve has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee and a Masters of Divinity from Bethel Seminary. Steve and his wife, Colleen, have raised four children and recently became empty nesters. They are proud owners of Misha, a Newfoundlander expected to reach 150 lbs.

Chris VanBrocklin

Origin of No Regrets

In 1904, William Borden graduated from high school and as heir to the Borden Dairy estate, he was already a millionaire. For his graduation present, his parents gave him a trip around the world.  The average eighteen year old would be living it up, having the time of their life.

But Borden was different.
In 1904, William Borden graduated from high school and as heir to the Borden Dairy estate, he was already a millionaire. For his graduation present, his parents gave him a trip around the world.  The average eighteen year old would be living it up, having the time of their life.

But Borden was different.

As he traveled through Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, Borden felt a growing oncern for the lost of the Middle East and Asia. Finally, he wrote home to say, “I’m going to give my life to prepare for the mission field.” After making this decision, William Borden wrote two words in the back of his Bible: “NO RESERVES”

Borden arrived at Yale University in 1905 and promptly began discussing scripture and praying over breakfast with friends. More began to join them and a student ministry was born. By the end of his freshmen year, he had 150 students meeting for weekly Bible study and prayer. By the end of his senior year, 1000 out of Yale’s 1300 students were involved in this ministry. In a personal journal entry, Borden defined the source of this strength: “Say no to self. Say yes to Jesus. Every time.”

Borden’s outreach ministry was not confined to the Yale campus. He rescued drunks from the streets of New Haven. To rehabilitate them, he founded the Yale Hope Mission. A friend commented that “he might often be found in the lower parts of the city at night, on the street, in a cheap lodging house or some restaurant to which he had taken a poor hungry fellow to feed him, seeking to lead men to Christ.”

Borden’s missionary call narrowed to Muslims in China. Once that goal was in sight, Borden never wavered. He also inspired his classmates to consider missionary service. One of them said: “There was real iron in him, and I always felt he was of the stuff martyrs were made of.”

Upon graduation from Yale in 1909, Borden turned down multiple high paying job offers. He also wrote two more words in his Bible: “NO RETREATS”

William Borden went on to graduate work at Princeton Seminary in New Jersey. When he finished his studies at Princeton, he sailed for China. Because he was hoping to work with Muslims, he stopped first in Egypt to study Arabic. While there, he contracted spinal meningitis. Within a month 25-year-old William Borden was dead.

Was Borden’s untimely death a waste? Not in God’s plan. Prior to his death, Borden had written two more words in his Bible.

Underneath the words “No Reserves” and “No Retreats,” he had written...

Our Vision

To see biblical spiritual awakening come to the men of Wisconsin and to empower leaders to establish a men’s ministry in churches across the globe.

Our Mission

To create an environment for men to be challenged in their relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ by providing information relating to home, work, and ministry, and provide an opportunity for men to fellowship and worship together.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe the Scriptures, both Old and New Testament, to be the inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His Will for the salvation of men and the divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life.

We believe the Scriptures, both Old and New Testament, to be the inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His Will for the salvation of men and the divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life.

We believe in one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is true God and true man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross, a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures. Further, He arose bodily from the dead and ascended into heaven, where at the right hand of the Majesty on High He is now our High Priest and Advocate, and in the person of the Holy Spirit, He indwells the believer.

We believe the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, and during this age to convict, regenerate, seal, indwell, guide, instruct and empower the believer for life and service.

We believe man was created in the image of God but fell into sin and is therefore lost, and only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and spiritual life be obtained.

We believe the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provide the only ground for justification and salvation for all who believe, and only such as receive Jesus Christ are born of the Holy Spirit and thus become children of God.

We believe water baptism and the Lord’s Supper are ordinances to be observed by the Church during this age. They are, however, not to be regarded as means of salvation or prerequisites for church membership. (This church shall practice believer’s baptism by immersion.)

We believe the true Church is composed of all such persons who are regenerated by the Holy Spirit through saving faith in Jesus Christ, are united together in the Body of Christ of which He is Lord and Head and are commissioned for the God-given task of proclaiming the gospel to every person. Only those who are thus members of the true Church shall be eligible for membership in the local church. Every local church has the right under Christ to decide and govern its own affairs.

We believe in the personal and imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ, and that this has a vital bearing on the personal life and service of the believer.

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, of the believer to everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord, and of the unbeliever to judgment and eternal separation from God.
